Our Take

Launched originally in 2014, the Legacy Machine 101 was Mb&F’s take on traditional watchmaking, with a twist. Fast forward seven years, the brand has returned with an update to the original – the LM101 in steel with light blue dial.

True to form - MB&F is Max Büsser & Friends after all - the LM101 is the result of a collaboration between the brand and esteemed fellow independent watchmaker, Kari Voutilainen. Combining the spirit of traditional watchmaking and aesthetics, Kari Voutilainen’s expertise, with the creative fervor of MB&F, the LM101 feels like it could easily slide smoothly into settings a century ago or a century in the future. And that’s intentionally so. The entire Legacy Machine line is supposed to represent the fusion of the best aspects of traditional watchmaking with an avant-garde twist.

Compared to the original 2014 release of the LM101, this updated iteration of the timepiece has refinements to the design, decoration, and mechanics. Notably, the balance wheel is now fitted with a H. Moser double hairspring, the in-house movement’s bridges have been modified with a contrasting NAC-coated black treatment while the time and power reserve indicators have been enlarged for better legibility.

For anyone familiar with MB&F, the LM101 represents the most easily wearable watch in the brand’s collection - a 40mm case with relatively traditional shape. Its traditional, yet futuristic look makes this watch fit well into both casual and formal occasions. Sitting alongside the original 2014 LM101, this timepiece is yet another masterpiece in MB&F’s catalog.
