Our Take

Max Büsser & Friends have pushed the creative boundaries of watchmaking for nearly two decades with Horological Machines, Legacy Machines, Performance Art, and Co-Creation timepieces. We’ve had the privilege of handling many of the brand’s creations from their Legacy Machine Perpetual to the HM10 Bulldog. It’s from our experience with that brand that we’re always so excited to handle new timepieces for the first time. That’s why we are thrilled to offer the brand’s first timepiece created with women in mind: the FlyingT in Lapis Lazuli.

Max mentioned that creating a timepiece for women was a daunting task, something he wanted to do with more care than simply bejeweling a “men’s” watch. Well, his honest effect was met with critical acclaim – the FlyingT won the GPHG Prize for Ladies’ Complication when it released in 2019. In MB&F fashion, the brand created a timepiece with a striking aesthetic, brought about by the flying tourbillon front and center on the dial. Normally, flying tourbillons are buried in a movement, surrounded on all sides, because they are commonly only anchored at the base.. MB&F created a flying tourbillon that appears to “fly” on a whole other level. Almost as if it sat on a pedestal, to be observed with uninterrupted view, this novelty is thanks to the architecture of the movement. The asymmetrical aperture on the dial allows for the column to protrude, holding the flying tourbillon in place while it dances.

While the timepiece bears a round case, unusual for MB&F, the aesthetics of the movement as well exaggerated convex sapphire crystal brings the FlyingT firmly back to the realm of the brand. One can glean from other Horological Machines like the HM10, HM9, and HM3, Max Büsser is not afraid of creating extraordinary sapphire crystals.

This iteration of the FlyingT comes in lapis lazuli on the hour and minute counter as well as the dial. Coupling the intensely blue, precious stone to all of the timepiece’s 168 diamonds (120 on the case, 21 on the buckle, 26 on the two crowns and 1 large diamond on the tourbillon cage), the FlyingT is stunning on every level.
