Our Take

One of De Bethune’s most iconic timepieces is the DB28 “Kind of Blue,” released in 2016. It’s everything that indie collectors love about the Swiss manufacture. It’s thoroughly “De Bethune” from its avant-garde design to ultra-comfortable floating lugs to its bluing brought to new heights. For Geneva Watch Days 2023, De Bethune comes with an update to the icon – the DB28 XP “Kind of Blue.”

Though the original DB28 was not thick at ~11mm, the DB28 XP Starry Sky trims the height of the timepiece down to a mere 7.2mm. The trend toward XP – ”extra plat” or “extra flat in English – is part of a modernization process to push the engineering on some of the brand’s most impressive creations to the next level. It’s perfectly in line with the mentality of the master watchmaker behind De Bethune, Denis Flageollet, continuously improving upon work throughout the years.
