Arnold and Son introduces one of the timepieces that set the brand on its path creating unusual moonphase complications – the HM Perpetual Moon in platinum with a salmon guilloché dial.

Originally released in 2015, this version of the Perpetual Moon has been updated with some ergonomic and aesthetic alterations. The case is slightly smaller and slimmer, measuring at 41.5mm in diameter and 11.3mm in height, while its lugs are streamlined compared to previous models. These updates push attention onto the dial – the centerpiece of the Perpetual Moon. Where previous models utilized precious stone dials, the updated Perpetual Moon bears a salmon engraved dial, inspired by “stellar rays” to match with the astronomical motifs. The massive moonphase complication, occupying the top half of the dial, departed slightly from previous models with a mother-of-pearl moon with hand-painted details as well as a SuperLuminova coating. This timepiece solidifies Arnold & Son’s position as one of the masters of astronomical complications amongst modern independent watchmakers.

Turning the watch over, the Calibre A&S 1512 matches the standard set by the dial. The movement is highly finished with blued screws, an outward radiating Côtes de Genève, chamfered bridges, and circular satin-finished wheels. Most notably, Arnold & Son adds a useful adjusting system for the moonphase complication. Usually, it’s difficult to pinpoint exactly where the moon should be while eyeballing it on the dial side. Here, the brand has placed a more precise circular scale, allowing this timepiece’s owner to see what is indicated on the dial-side. Throw in a 90-hour power reserve on this manual wound movement, and this is a heavy hitter.
