Our Take

Rexhep Rexhepi launched Akrivia with the AK-01 Tourbillon Chronographe Monopoussoir as the very first watch for the brand.

It is undoubtedly a stunning work of complications, traditional watchmaking and hand finishing.

On its release day, Rexhepi was 25 years old and fresh off a two-year stint with FP Journe following his work with BNB Concept (complications maker). We recall him speaking at the time of achieving his goal of creating a highly technical and highly finished artisan watch in a contemporary case that would emphasize his aesthetic and skill level.

A mesmerizing combination of dial-side gears, wheels, and bridges are the stars of the skeletonized AK-01 while a charcoal hue and black mirror-polished hands strikingly accent the neo-gothic dial.

The Ak-01 boasts a 60 second tourbillon connected through its external gear to a disengaged gear at four o’clock. Upon starting the monopusher chronograph from the crown, the two gears will engage and the timepiece will record 60 seconds on the 2 o’clock subdial and 30 minutes at the 10 o’clock subdial. You’ll also notice the unusual position of the chronograph’s column wheel at 12’oclock that is elevated to the dial side.

Coupled with a brushed titanium case, the AK-01 is deceptively light for a watch jam-packed with so many components.

Technical elements aside, the AK-01 is one incredible watch by Akrivia that continues to grow in importance for the young brand.

From the Source

Akrivia

Our founder Rexhep Rexhepi always knew that his first timepiece would have a tourbillon at its heart. He came to this realisation in the earliest steps of his career, when he entered the final quality control workshop at Patek Philippe and held in his hand for the first time an exquisitely crafted tourbillon watch with ten days of power reserve.

The AK-01 is a tourbillon, and it is also a monopusher chronograph. As the launching timepiece of Akrivia, the AK-01 represents our values and our ambition. The tourbillon is always in motion, like our workshop. The monopusher chronograph is a high-energy, high-precision function that is rooted in traditional mastery — just like every member of the Akrivia team.
