Auction season is in full swing with Phillips The New York Watch Auction: Seven on December 10-11. This will be another great event for indies with the auction catalog marked by timepieces from Kudoke, F.P. Journe, De Bethune, MB&F, Andersen Genève. Amongst the lots, there is an exceptional unique piece from Urwerk – the UR-102 “ArtForTime.” Donated by the brand with proceeds going to the Swiss Institute to support contemporary art and artists, the reloaded UR-102 was created in collaboration with Cooper Jacoby.

Urwerk is no stranger to the art world. Co-founders, Martin Frei and Felix Baumgartner, combined their backgrounds in art and watchmaking to create their timepieces. A collision of two worlds, this unique piece UR-102 is further evidence that the duo understands very well how to make the most out of collaboration between artists and watchmakers. In line with Cooper Jacoby’s interests in how systems govern our everyday life, the unique UR-102 uses thermodynamic pigments to visualize one of the body’s most essential regulatory mechanisms: temperature. Shifting from blue to green to yellow to orange, this timepiece is constantly in a state of flux. It’s a watch that shows the cool, consistent passage of time  alongside the chaotic, perpetual change of life with color.

The UR-102 ArtForTime isn’t only a great watch for a great cause. It’s great for watchmaking, especially as the craft moves farther and farther into the domain of “art.” We’re sure that this timepiece will perform well over the weekend, and we hope to see more and more collaborations between artists and watchmakers in the future!
