Urwerk UR-105 CT Streamliner Iron

Over the years, we’ve been fortunate enough to handle many different Urwerk timepieces. We love how Felix Baumgartner and Martin Frei, Urwerk co-founders, leverage their extraordinary partnership to create extraordinary timepieces. That’s why we’re excited to showcase yet another marvel from the brand: the UR-105 CT Streamliner Iron in stainless steel.

The timepiece that Robert Downey Jr. wore as Iron Man in Avengers: Endgame, the UR-105 CT Streamliner Iron features all of the hallmarks that make collectors love Urwerk. From its futuristic case shape and wandering satellite indication of time to the oversized crown at 12 o’clock, the UR-105 CT is a canvas on which Felix and Martin explore their interests in how time is indicated and how interactive mechanical watches can be.

As Martin mentioned in our retrospective on the UR-105 series before its retirement, “We want to create timepieces that make you want to touch them. And we want to create timepieces that surprise you when you do.” Here, the UR-105 CT delivers. The movement’s automatic rotors can be deactivated by the lever on the caseback – a novelty for those that prefer the ritual of winding their watch. The timepiece’s “shield,” reminiscent of pocket watch cases, opens and closes by the slider. Maintaining a clean look while closed, the option to open the hood allows the eye to indulge and appreciate the movement’s mechanical complexity. It’s a fascinating solution to see the inner workings from the dial side.

For its unorthodox shape, UR-105 CT Streamliner Iron wears extremely comfortably for a timepiece with heft (39.5mm width x 53mm length x 17.8mm height). This is a hell of a timepiece in the UR-105 series, forever iconic as the Iron Man watch. Like all of its siblings, this timepiece showcases the creativity and mechanical prowess of two of the living legends in independent watchmaking.
