URWERK UR-100V LightSpeed Ceramic

The UR-100 has become URWERK’s most versatile platform for experimentation—an ideal canvas for the brand’s ongoing dialogue between time, space, and material science. Among URWERK’s creations, the UR-100 remains its most classically wearable form, yet it consistently delivers some of the brand’s most conceptually ambitious ideas. The latest chapter in this lineage, the all-new UR-100V LightSpeed Ceramic, refines both the narrative and the material expression of the LightSpeed concept.

Earlier UR-100 models explored the relationship between time and celestial motion, visualizing Earth’s rotation and orbit. The LightSpeed concept pushes beyond planetary mechanics to focus on a more fundamental constant: the propagation of light itself. Here, time is no longer simply measured, it reflects the motion of the cosmos. As the wandering hour satellite departs the minute track, it becomes a moving reference point, tracing the journey of a photon as it travels outward from the Sun across the solar system.

This display is anchored by a three-dimensional planetary indication representing the eight planets, each positioned according to the precise time required for sunlight to reach them – from Mercury at 3.2 minutes to Neptune at 4.1 hours. The result is a mechanical translation of astrophysical reality, scaled to the wrist with scientific rigor rather than metaphor.

For the UR-100V LightSpeed Ceramic, URWERK introduces its most advanced composite case to date. The white ceramic-based material integrates ceramic fibres with layers of glass fibre and carbon, dramatically improving shock resistance while preserving the visual clarity and durability associated with ceramic. Machining reveals a stratified structure with subtle depth, while the white case frames a deep black dial conceived as a window into space itself.

Measuring 43mm wide, nearly 52mm long, and 14.5mm thick, the case is paired with a DLC-treated titanium caseback offering a view of the automatic UR 12.02 calibre. Featuring the Windfänger air-resistance system, twin barrels, and a 48-hour power reserve, the movement balances mechanical complexity with long-term stability. The UR-100V LightSpeed Ceramic stands as another thoughtful and experimental evolution of the UR-100.
