For more than 180 years, L’Epée 1839 has been a prominent clockmaking house in the Jura Mountains of Switzerland. To this day, it remains the only high-end clockmaking house left. What you’d expect, classic aesthetics with the fine Swiss touch, you won’t find much of here. Whether it’s this Time Fast D8 or any of their other creations, L’Epée is an innovative, modern powerhouse in clock design and manufacturing. It’s no wonder they have collaborated extensively with MB&F.
We’re pleased to present another creation from the clockmaking masterminds, the L’Epée 1839 Grenade. The hours and minutes are displayed on two black aluminum disks rotating directly over the beating heart of Grenade. With 255 components, the movement ticks away at a traditional 18,000 vibrations per hour, showcasing the balance front and center. Without an indication for the power reserve, the audible ticking of time is a reminder to seize the day.
Part of L’Epée’s DNA is merging form with function. There’s no frivolousness in the clockmaking house’s designs. With the Grenade, the pin is the timepiece’s key, allowing for the setting of the time and the winding of the 8-day movement. Modeled off the historical MKII grenade that uses a pin to activate the explosive, L’Epée’s Grenade almost tricks the mind to concentrate a little more than usual on time-setting and winding after pulling the pin.
Limited to 99 timepieces in each of the Grenade’s 8 colors, these are sure to find their place in the home of timepiece enthusiasts collectors.
