Ever since we first met Stefan Kudoke at Baselworld 2019, there was so much to love about his work – strong German watchmaking aesthetic and high quality craftsmanship at great prices. That’s why we collaborated with Stefan for our 10-piece Gruner Wald Sonderedition. As a massive hit with our community, it’s a pleasure to bring you yet another new creation from the German watchmaking master. This the Kudoke 2 Tremblage with black rhodium dial.

Another warmly welcomed edition to the popular Kudoke 2, this is the same timepiece that won the “Petite Aiguille” Prize 2019 at the GPHG for best watch between 4-10k CHF. The KUDOKE 2 explores tremblage in dialogue with its signature day/night display. The engraved surface forms a serene, almost meditative backdrop for the sculptural celestial motif. The matte structure enhances the depth of the sun, moon, and stars, allowing the display to unfold with quiet intensity. Rather than competing for attention, the tremblage serves as a subtle stage, elevating the visual presence of one of the watch’s defining features.

Tremblage is recognized instantly, yet only fully understood upon closer inspection. This traditional engraving technique is among the most demanding forms of surface finishing in haute horlogerie and is deeply rooted in classical watchmaking, including the long-standing Saxon tradition of fine hand engraving. The name “Tremblage” is derived from the French word “trembler,” meaning “to tremble” or “to vibrate,” and accurately describes the characteristic motion used to hand-work the surface with a fine graver in countless steps. At KUDOKE, this process is carried out entirely in-house, from the first touch of the graver to the final finish, including the electroplating. Each piece therefore carries the unmistakable signature of the artisan’s unique craftsmanship.
