Felipe Pikullik Sternenhimmel FPA1 Blue Aventurine Dial

Felipe Pikullik’s new Sternenhimmel FPA1 (Felipe Pikullik Architecture One, in German) marks a clear turning point for the Berlin-based independent watchmaker. What began as a small atelier focused on refining and transforming existing movements has now evolved into something far more ambitious. This second-generation of the Sternenhimmel is a watch built around a newly developed in-house movement –  a move toward true mechanical independence.

For several years, Pikullik’s watches relied on heavily reworked ETA Unitas calibres. Bridges were redesigned, components reworked, and the finishing executed by hand. The process felt deliberate and educational, allowing the workshop to deepen its understanding of construction and finishing rather than rushing prematurely into full independence. With the introduction of the FPA1 movement, that groundwork finally pays off.

The new calibre introduces a completely new architecture designed to serve as the foundation of Pikullik’s future collection. Rather than focusing on a dramatic complication, the watch emphasizes thoughtful mechanical details. The use of wolf-teeth geometry for the crown and winding wheels reflects a traditional approach rarely seen in modern independent watchmaking, chosen for smoother energy transfer and long-term durability. Just as interesting is the hidden click mechanism, enclosed to prevent microscopic metal dust from spreading across the movement over time. It’s a subtle detail that reveals a watchmaker thinking carefully about longevity.

Visually, the movement continues Pikullik’s strong identity. The untreated German silver bridges give the calibre a warm, traditional tone, and the tremblage finishing adds quiet depth rather than flashy decoration. The texture creates a soft, almost organic surface that feels appropriate for a small atelier focused on patient craftsmanship.

The watch itself remains rooted in the familiar Sternenhimmel design. The 39mm case keeps the proportions restrained and wearable, while the aventurine dial, available in blue or green, still delivers the poetic, night-sky aesthetic that helped define the brand’s early identity. The addition of a retrograde date with a discreet pusher integrated into the lugs adds practicality without disrupting the calm design. This Sternenhimmel and its new FPA1 movement is another huge step for the Berlin-based watchmaker.
