Felipe Pikullik Mondphase II Stainless

$52,300

Felipe Pikullik’s Mondphase II marks a decisive shift in the Berlin watchmaker’s trajectory. This is a step from reinterpreting ébauche movements to creating a fully realized mechanical movement of his own. Long admired for his sculptural skeletonization, Pikullik now steps into true independence with Kaliber FPMP2, a movement designed from scratch and executed almost entirely in-house. The result is a timepiece that feels less like a continuation of his past work and more like the opening chapter of a new creative era for the Berlin-based watchmaker.

Where Pikullik once worked within the constraints of pre-existing movements, the Mondphase II removes every limit. The new caliber’s gear train, bridges, and layout are conceived freely, giving the watch a striking three-dimensional topography on the dial side. Depth is not a byproduct, but the central theme: each wheel and plate appears to float over an aventurine inlay that evokes the star-filled sky. Despite the supplier’s objections to creating this stone inlay, the wafer-thin aventurine creates a dramatic universe in miniature and establishes the aesthetic identity of the newly launched Serie Universum collection – a collection dedicated to Pikullik’s in-house complicated watchmaking.

Finishing sits at the heart of all of Pikullik’s work, and the Mondphase II elevates that obsession to its most expressive form yet. The movement is a maze of sharp interior angles, polished surfaces, and skeletonized components that catch light from every direction. The balance bridge, with its sweeping mirrored chamfer, acts as a focal point, while a sculpted recess beneath the balance wheel creates a reflective chamber that allows the beating heart of the watch to be viewed from multiple angles. It’s a poetic flourish, one that transforms the most central component of the watch into a contemplative centerpiece.

Beyond aesthetics, the watch also reflects the evolution of Pikullik’s growing atelier. The modular winding and setting mechanism was intentionally designed so younger watchmakers could participate in the assembly process. This is an unusual fusion of mentorship and movement architecture. Technical details remain practical: manual winding, 21,600 VPH (3 Hz), a 40-hour power reserve, and a wearable 41 × 10.5 mm case available in stainless steel, bronze, or platinum with each limited to 20 pieces.

The Mondphase II isn’t just another independent debut – this is a statement. In its cosmic imagery, architectural depth, and uncompromising hand-finishing, the watch signals Pikullik’s arrival as a creator of original horological worlds. We’ve all seen a glimpse of the future of Berlin watchmaking.
