De Bethune is back with a new addition to their stunning catalog. And it’s something extraordinary! A watch with two functional, reversible dials, the new DB29 Kind of Two Tourbillon is a big swing from one of our favorite independent watchmakers.
Though double-sided watches aren’t a new invention, it’s rather rare to see one in modern watchmaking. That’s precisely what attracted De Bethune master watchmaker, Denis Flageollet, to revitalize the form. In the spirit of the explorer, new terrain always affords new possibilities. In this instance, this double-sided timepiece led to fresh horological innovations. We see a newly developed type of bridge, a new in-house caliber, and of course, adapted floating lugs. With center-second and hidden tourbillon on one side, 6 o’clock second and open-face tourbillon on the other, this asymmetry clearly indicates that Denis loves a challenge in watchmaking design and development.
Conceptually, what makes the DB29 Kind of Two Tourbillon so appealing is that it is one timepiece with two identities. That is to say, both ends of the aesthetic spectrum are covered in the DB29. On one side, there’s a more conservative dial with guilloche and elegant numerals. On the other, there’s a space-age dial with an open tourbillon. Never would we have guessed such polarizing aesthetics, the traditional and the modern, could work so seamlessly together. Yet here we are and excited to offer the DB29, the watch for collectors who won’t settle for anything less than the best of both worlds.
