De Bethune DB25xs Sand Winds

De Bethune has a way of turning the natural world into something you can wear, and the DB25xs Sand Winds may be its most quietly hypnotic interpretation yet. The dial is the whole story here. The Manufacture combined two of its in-house finishing techniques, random guilloché and natural oxidative heat treatment, to coax a warm yellow surface out of solid titanium. The effect evokes wind moving across dunes, ripples of sand caught mid-shift, with a shimmer that changes as the light does.

It is worth pausing on how that color is achieved. There is no lacquer, no paint, no coating. The yellow comes from heat alone, the same oxidative process De Bethune is celebrated for with its blued titanium, here pushed to a different part of the spectrum. White gold inserts scattered across the dial catch the light like grains glinting in the sun, and the polished yellow titanium hands and brown-toned hour markers pick up those warm tones without ever feeling matchy.

The case is pure DB25, the reference that has defined De Bethune’s classical side for two decades. Grade 5 titanium, hand-polished, 40.6mm across yet feather-light on the wrist thanks to the material and those signature hollowed, tapered lugs that float the watch above the skin. At 8.8mm thick it slips under a cuff without a second thought.

Turn it over and the Sand Winds shows its other face. Through the sapphire caseback sits the hand-wound Calibre DB2005, finished with Côtes De Bethune striping and polished blued titanium. This is a movement that carries the Manufacture’s signature innovations: a titanium balance wheel with white gold inserts, the patented balance spring with flat terminal curve, a silicon escape wheel, and the triple pare-chute shock-absorbing system. Its self-regulating twin barrel delivers a constant six-day power reserve. 160 parts, 27 jewels, 28,800 vibrations per hour.

This is De Bethune doing what it does best: taking a deceptively simple, time-only watch and packing it with technical conviction and a dial you could lose an afternoon staring into. Paired with an exceptionally supple brown alligator strap and a matching titanium pin buckle, the Sand Winds is desert light on the wrist.
