Chopard L.U.C Strike One Titanium

$66,600

The L.U.C collection has quietly become one of the most rewarding corners of haute horlogerie to pay attention to. Chopard Manufacture Fleurier turns thirty this year, and if you track what the team in Fleurier has put out over the past decade, it’s clear this is a Manufacture operating at the very top of the craft without asking for credit. From the 2016 L.U.C Full Strike’s Aiguille d’Or win at the GPHG to the 2022 Sound of Eternity trilogy, chiming complications have become central to the L.U.C identity. For the anniversary year, Chopard adds another entry to that story: the L.U.C Strike One Titanium.

The Strike One is a chime-in-passing, one of the rarer chiming complications in modern watchmaking. Every time the minute hand reaches 12, a single hammer strikes a single, clean note. There’s no repeater button to press, no hours to count, just a small acoustic punctuation at the top of every hour. Chopard first released the L.U.C Strike One in 2006. Nearly twenty years later, the complication returns in a 40mm Grade 5 titanium case, 9.86mm thin, with a discreet pusher integrated into the crown to activate or silence the chime.

What makes this watch significant is not the case material, as compelling as titanium is here. It’s the monobloc sapphire gong system. Chopard’s patented construction machines the gongs and the watch’s dial crystal from a single block of sapphire, without screws, solder, or adhesive. The crystal itself becomes the resonator, and the case material becomes almost acoustically irrelevant. That’s why titanium, a metal that would typically compromise a traditional chiming watch’s tonal purity, works here. The sound lives in the sapphire, not the metal.

At the heart is the L.U.C 96.32-L, a self-winding calibre powered by a 22-carat ethical gold micro-rotor and built around Chopard Twin Technology, a pair of stacked barrels arranged in series for a 65-hour power reserve that remains available even when the chime is active. The movement is COSC chronometer-certified and carries the Poinçon de Genève, one of the oldest and most demanding independent standards in the craft. Through the sapphire caseback you’ll find hand-finished bridges with Côtes de Genève, a swan’s-neck regulator, and the full weight of Fleurier’s finishing vocabulary across 275 components.

The dial is where the 30-year anniversary quietly asserts itself. Crafted from 18-carat ethical rose gold with a salmon finish, the central medallion is hand-guilloché in a honeycomb motif, a nod to founder Louis-Ulysse Chopard, who adopted the bee as a symbol of a Manufacture working in unison. At 12 o’clock, a small aperture reveals the hammer itself, and a disc indicates chime status: white when active, ruthenium when silent. Rhodium-plated chevron markers, Dauphine hands, and a snailed small seconds at 6 close out a composition that feels both ceremonial and restrained.

Chopard is one of the few Manufactures anywhere producing chiming watches at this level, and chime-in-passing pieces are hard to find in any form on the market. It is a pleasure for us at EsperLuxe to bring the L.U.C Strike One Titanium to the wrist of a collector.
