In 1980, Chopard launched its first sports watch – the St. Moritz. Imagined and led by Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, he was a young man in his early 20’s when he pushed for the first stainless steel timepiece in the brand’s catalog. Fast forward nearly 40 years, the next generation in the family reimagines the St. Moritz by introducing the Alpine Eagle in 2019. Karl-Fritz Scheufele, the fourth generation at Chopard, led the all-new modernized interpretation of the brand’s sports watch. Beloved by collectors since its launch, we have the privilege of offering an all-new Alpine Eagle XP TT (Extra-Thin, Technical Titanium), an ultra-slim, openworked masterclass in sports watches from Chopard.
Released at Watches & Wonders 2024, Chopard’s L.U.C Caliber 96.17-S showcases the brand’s commitment to refined engineering and aesthetic clarity. At only 3.30 mm thick, this ultra-slim movement combines technical ambition with carefully considered decoration. Its skeletonized construction reveals contrasting metals and meticulous finishing, while an off-center 22-karat gold micro-rotor delivers efficient automatic winding thanks to its high inertia. Chopard’s Twin-barrel system, with its two stacked mainspring barrels, provides a strong power reserve of roughly 65 hours. This is exceptional for a movement of such thin proportions.
Instead of a traditional dial, the watch features an openworked mainplate and sculpted bridges that fully expose the mechanism. Their layout forms circular, radiating patterns around the movement’s center, giving the piece a distinct visual identity compared to more conventional skeletonized watches. The hour markers appear to float on the dial, connected to the chapter ring enveloping.
The Alpine Eagle 41 XP TT is crafted entirely from grade 5 titanium, a metal slightly darker than steel that reinforces the model’s contemporary, athletic character. Its exceptionally light weight makes it extremely comfortable on the wrist, while the alloy’s resistance to corrosion makes it suitable for a wide range of environments from mountain excursions to salt-water marine settings.
The movement’s thin profile allows the watch to maintain elegant proportions. Although the diameter remains 41 mm, the case is only 8 mm thick, with slimmer flanks and a streamlined bezel that open up the dial and emphasize the movement within. The Alpine Eagle 41 XP TT showcases Chopard’s continued dedication to precision craftsmanship and modern watchmaking innovation.
