Chopard L.U.C 1860 30th Anniversary

$29,700

The new Chopard L.U.C 1860 arrives as a thoughtful continuation of one of Chopard’s most emblematic designs, marking 30 years since the founding of its Fleurier manufacture. Rather than reinventing the original, this latest edition refines it. This all-new timepiece preserves the proportions, aesthetic codes, and technical philosophy that made the 1996 model a landmark in modern independent watchmaking.

The case remains a restrained 36.5mm, now crafted in Lucent Steel, a proprietary alloy known for its brightness, durability, and high recycled content. Its compact dimensions and slim 8.2mm profile reinforce the watch’s dress-oriented character, while subtle finishing in the contrasting satin-brushed and polished surfaces adds quiet sophistication.

Visually, the highlight is the “Areuse Blue” dial, inspired by the river near the Fleurier manufacture. Executed in solid 18-carat white gold, it features traditional hand-guilloché in a sunburst motif, created using vintage, manually operated lathes. The dial’s layered construction features a satin-brushed chapter ring, applied white gold markers, and a snailed small seconds at 6 o’clock, depth without excess. Notably, the absence of a date display preserves symmetry and purity on this timepiece.

Inside, the L.U.C Calibre 96.40-L continues the lineage of Chopard’s first in-house movement. Measuring just 3.3mm thick, it incorporates a 22-carat gold micro-rotor and twin stacked barrels (patented Chopard Twin technology), delivering a 65-hour power reserve. The movement is COSC-certified for chronometric precision and features a stop-seconds function and swan’s-neck regulator for fine adjustment.

An achievement rarely seen in steel watches, the finishing is executed to Poinçon de Genève (Geneva Seal) standards. This is a throughline in Chopard L.U.C’s catalog, underscoring the brand’s commitment to haute horlogerie. Altogether, the new L.U.C 1860 stands as a measured evolution: a watch that honors its origins while reflecting three decades of technical and artisanal progress.
