Still turning heads well after its debut, Arnold & Son’s Ultrathin Tourbillon continues to climb the ladder of artistry in watchmaking from its home in La-Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. Now shown in a red gold case with a blue dial, this ultrathin tourbillon remains an elegant execution in the brand’s modern collection.
Focusing on a new, refined design, the Ultrathin Tourbillon Platinum is a slimmer version of its predecessors. And that’s thanks to caliber A&S8300. At just 2.97 mm thick, this tourbillon with extremely fine finishing is one of the slimmest ever designed. The highest point of the A&S8300 calibre is located on the top of the tourbillon carriage, which has also been redesigned and undergone significant changes in relation to its predecessors. It features a variable-inertia balance with inertia blocks to ensure more stable calibration over time, as well as all the emblems of the brand’s supreme horological craftsmanship – Côtes de Genève main plate, hand-polished and chamfered bridges, circular satin-finished wheels.
On the dial side, the cosmic blue is an homage to the stars that played a massive role in John Arnold’s maritime navigational work in horology during the 18th century. Its texture is produced through a mixture of gold powder mixed and aluminum sparkles to create the lightly sandblasted appearance. Measuring at 41.5, the updated UTTE is an outstanding execution on one of John Arnold’s core complications.
