Based out of Biel, Switzerland, Armin Strom has built a distinctive identity through collections like the Gravity Equal Force and its exceptional resonance complication timepieces. Known for openworked movements and unconventional complications, the independent manufacture captured collectors’ attention with the Orbit. Now, the brand expands the collection with the Orbit Midnight Purple, a striking new edition that extends its signature purple hue beyond the dial and into the movement itself.

The Midnight Purple fumé dial transitions from a vivid center to darker edges, highlighting the watch’s layered architecture. For the first time, a frosted Midnight Purple mainplate beneath the dial reinforces the color theme and strengthens the visual connection between display and mechanics. Luminescent hands, markers, and signature numerals ensure excellent legibility, while a black ceramic bezel, stainless steel case, and integrated steel bracelet complete the watch’s bold appearance.

Beyond its distinctive colorway, the Orbit Midnight Purple reimagines the date function. Displayed on the ceramic bezel rather than through a traditional date window, the date indication remains hidden until requested. Activated by a pusher at 10 o’clock, the hand jumps from its neutral position at 12 o’clock to display the current date, then returns with a second press, leaving the dial free from unnecessary information. This innovation is made possible by Armin Strom’s “column-wheel date” mechanism, which ensures precise and smooth operation.

Powering the watch is the in-house Calibre ASS20, featuring the brand’s patented Equal Force Barrel for consistent energy delivery across a 72-hour power reserve. Visible through the sapphire crystal and caseback, the movement showcases Armin Strom’s dedication to transparency and hand-finishing, with rhodium-coated components, polished bevels, perlage, and circular graining enriching every surface.
