Armin Strom Dual Time GMT Resonance Manufacture Edition

$125,000

Another year passes and Armin Strom continues to flex its technical capabilities with an all-new release for Watches & Wonders 2025. The all-new Dual Time GMT Resonance Manufacture Edition is a masterclass in the Biel-based brand’s use of resonance to ensure chronometric performance. Limited to 50 pieces, the Dual Time GMT Resonance Manufacture Edition is a striking monochrome design in an ultra-sleek 39mm stainless steel case.

First recognized by Galileo, the concept of resonance has deep roots in timekeeping. Christiaan Huygens played with early notions of resonance in clocks. Janvier Antide and Abraham-Louis Breguet continued experimentation later with clocks, while the latter even tried to miniaturize resonance dynamics in pocket watches. Armin Strom pulls heavily from historical experiments to develop its own approach to fostering the positive effects of resonance on chronometry. The Dual Time GMT Resonance Manufacture Edition utilizes a patented, built-for-purpose suspension system known as a “clutch spring”, inspired by Antide Janvier’s Resonance Clock, to act as a vibrational intermediary between the balance wheels. This contrasts against the more common approach to resonance – allow the vibrations to transmit through the base plate. The clutch spring approach creates much more resilience, minimizing dissipation and oscillation rate errors that are common through active wrist motion, gravity, and temperature changes. In other words, this is a resonance complication built for everyday wear and tear.

Known for their open-worked movements, the Dual Time GMT Resonance Manufacture Edition is actually two independent movements in one watch, composed of 231 meticulously crafted components. This is why we see two crowns, two black grenage dials, two balance wheels, two 42-hour mainspring barrels, two completely separate gear trains – each movement is a synchronized, mirror image of each other. Each dial features a subdial with engraved, polished blackened-steel day-night indicators for ease of turning this timepiece into a dual time watch.

From a finishing perspective, quality matches that of the technical complexity of the timepiece’s movement and complication. We see lavish hand-finishing and decoration on this caliber, including hand-polished bevels, screws and countersinks, along with circular graining, perlage and Geneva stripes. The juxtaposition of matte black and polished steel further emphasizes the visual depth and dramatic contrast. This Dual Time GMT Resonance Manufacture Edition is a major addition to Armin Strom’s catalog.
