The Tinkler 1958 from Angelus revives one of the brand’s most distinctive mid-century complications, bringing back the rare combination of a self-winding quarter repeater in a compact, vintage-inspired wristwatch. Coming with an 18-carat yellow gold case, this timepiece draws directly from a 1958 original that helped define Angelus’s legacy in striking mechanisms.
At its core, the watch reflects the maison’s long-standing relationship with sound. Since the late 19th century, Angelus has been closely tied to chiming watches, from early repeater patents to practical applications like tactile timepieces for visually impaired users. The Tinkler 1958 channels that heritage into a modern format focused on clarity and usability.
Powering the watch is the new in-house A600 calibre, a self-winding movement operating at 4 Hz with a 70-hour power reserve. Activated via a pusher at 9 o’clock, the quarter repeater strikes hours on a single gong and quarters through double chimes, delivering a clear acoustic indication of time. Finishing is refined, with Cotes de Geneve bridges, polished bevels, and a tungsten rotor.
The 38mm case and domed white sunburst dial stay true to the original design, with applied markers and subtle accents at the quarter hours referencing the repeater function. Paired with blue alligator leather straps, the watch maintains a strong vintage character.
The Tinkler 1958 ultimately emphasizes continuity over reinvention, presenting a historically significant complication in a restrained, contemporary form.
